This course is targeted at BI Developers who have at least three months experience of working with SQL Server Analysis Services. Delivered over two intense days, this level 300 course will focus on cube design in Day 1 with Day 2 devoted exclusively to Performance Optimisation.

Over the course of two intense days, Analysis Services guru, Chris Webb will work with participants in a hands-on class-room set up. Places on the course are limited to only 20 delegates to ensure you derive the maximum benefit from the course. The agenda for the course is as outlined below

Day 1 - Cube Design

  • Designing a data warehouse for use with Analysis Services
  • Dimension design: designing optimal attribute relationships, when to use parent/child hierarchies and ragged hierarchies
  • Complex cube modelling: multiple measure groups with different dimensionality and different granularities, many-to-many dimensions
  • Securing your cube: administrative security, dimension security, cell security
  • Productionisation: understanding processing options, scheduling processing and partition creation, maintenance, monitoring and deployment

Day 2 - Performance Optimisation

  • Understanding Query Execution: SSAS Architecture, using Profiler, Monitoring your Cube
  • Query Performance Tuning – the storage engine: partitioning and aggregation design
  • Query Performance Tuning – the formula engine: writing efficient MDX, tuning calculations and queries

  • Scale-up, Scale-out and hardware configuration for SSAS

    Chris Webb

    Chris is a UK-based SQL Consultant and Microsoft MVP.
